Start Rental Search

Where is the best place to start when you are looking for an apartment to rent?

There are a number of rental websites that let you search by zip code or within a specified mileage. Some sites are local, others are nationwide. Other sites post reviews of apartment complexes. The newspaper (online and print) as well as Craig's List offer rental opportunities. Be careful with Craig List, which can be a hotbed of scam artists.

Start looking online first. Craig’s list is a great place to get a feel for what's available in your area. There are also nationwide search engines that allow you to look at major apartment communities across the nation. Once you've found some good possibilities online, then go look at those places in person.

Look at classified advertisements in many different places, such as online and in the newspapers. Also, check with university alumni associations and co-workers for other possibilities.

Try an apartment guide available for free at most libraries. You can read all about the choices and rents before you go out to look
